Remarks owner: | This two owner from new example has the most exceptional history. The first owner Mr Edmund Bauthier a wealthy Belgium Industrialist & Entrepreneur had connections at the factory (Baron Von Hanstein, Race Dept. Director) and he requested the car be built to his own personal requirements. Initially the car was destined to be built as M471 Lightweight but Mr Bauthier changed his mind at the very last minute. He did not want the M471 lightweight seats as they would be to uncomfortable when he went touring. The order was changed to M472 and specified options were Recaro Sports seat, a full black leather interior (including dash top), no sun roof and manual windows. The engine was hand picked from the production line by his friend Baron Von Hanstein (Race Dept. Director) and the car was delivered to the main French Porsche dealership Son Auto (Paris). It had been hoped the car would be ready for the 1972 Paris Motor Show but due to the late alteration of the options the car delivery was delayed until the end of November, about 4 weeks after the show and the Carrera RS’s debut appearance to the world press and the public. Mr Bauthier's stable consisted of a Ferrari Daytona and Maserati Merak the the Carrera RS and he always choose the RS as his weapon of choice for his logn road trips.
This car is from the first 150 cars produced and it is a largely unknown fact that these very early cars (first 150) were produced to a higher specifiaction with extra strengthening to the gearbox tunnel and a superior quality fibreglass ducktail. Mr Bauthier owned the car until 1985 which is when Kevin purchased the car and has owned the car ever since.
The car has never been in an accident or damaged with the only exception of when Mr Bauthier was driving through the Swiss Alps and a snow chain came loose, this caused a few minor scratches and marks to the right rear wheel arch. The car has always been garaged and is believed to be one of the most original surviving examples of the Marque.
We have carried out a very sympathetic restoration and our brief as always was to maintain the integrity and originality of this iconic car. The car did not require any major rust repairs, all the floors, kidney bowls, wings, doors, ducktail etc are all the original items and the car has its original service books, tool kit and spare wheel gas compressor. As well as this the car has a huge history file from day one of it's purchase up until the present day. |
